There, I Fixed It: MyFord Touch Update Released
Customers complained, rankings dropped, Ford listened, and the fix is finally here. MyFord Touch, which went from a good thing to a controversial thing rather quickly, is about to give way to MyFord Touch 2.0 and what Ford hopes will be a brighter future for its infotainment system.
Starting Thursday, Ford and Lincoln customers who currently have the system in their vehicles should receive in the mail a USB flash drive containing software updates that should erase everything that pains them about MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch. Automotive News reports that owners should be able to install MyFord Touch 2.0 themselves or There, I Fixed It: MyFord Touch Update Released imagehave a Ford dealers do it for them. According to Ford spokesperson Alan Hall, since this is the first time Ford and Lincoln has done an update of this magnitude, and by this specific method, the percentage of customers expected to come to the dealership for the update compared to the number that will self-install is unknown. The process takes about an hour and the touchscreen will be disabled for the last 30 minutes of the installation.
On paper, MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch 2.0 looks to be a significant improvement, but the real test will come from the first batch of customers who attempt to use the system. Among the many improvements are faster response times to touchscreen inputs, larger and bolder fonts, a larger clock, and easier access to commonly used controls like radio presets and heated seats. The navigation screen has also been improved with better graphics and added 3D landmarks.
Last December, more than 1000 Ford employees tested the new system in their personal vehicles. MyFord Touch 2.0 will also be installed in upcoming 2013 model year cars including the new 2013 Ford Escape, Ford Taurus, Ford Edge, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT. Despite the shaky debut of the system, Ford states that order rates for MyFord Touch are on the rise. The Explorer and Edge, for example, have seen order rates increase by five percent going into the new model year. According the Automotive News¸ 79 percent of Ford Explorer and 72 percent of Ford Edge crossovers have been ordered with MyFord Touch.
